I Is For...#1: Interesting ways to wear a tie

The tie is one of the most versatile accessory a man can have. You can never over-use a tie, and as long as the patterns or prints on the tie are subtle, you are probably good to go, and you can match it with many shirts. Ties come in the classic (fat) size, slim and skinny sizes. You can tie them using many knots such as the Windsor and the Four-In-Hand. However, those knots are for conventional methods for wearing tie, which is usually on a fully buttoned shirt, around its collar. Today, I shall introduce 2 unique, interesting, and most definitely, unconventional ways of wearing a tie.

Firstly, one that is still rather conservative, and is just using a tie as a scarf.

This one is rather simple to recreate. Just put it around your neck, and bring one end over the other to form a knot, and stuff the ends inside your shirt. You can do it with a solid-coloured tie or a statement tie, such as a polka-dotted one.

Next, this tie is rather bold, and would definitely only be for the confident fashionisto. Saw this tie method from a picture of Men's Folio Jan/Feb 09.

And here is my take on it.

It looks harder than it really is. It is actually just how you would tie your shoelaces, the one where you make a knot like for the previous one, and then form a loop on both ends of the tie, and bring them over each other. The tie would be slanted to one side, so you will have to reposition it so that it will end up nicely. I believe using a fatter tie would create a better knot overall, as seen from the magazine. My tie was a slim one and the ribbons looked smaller. I doubt that I will ever wear this out, but you never know. Two-toned ties looked better for this knot as seen from the magazine. My tie had too many colours and the contrasting directions of the stripes and thickness of the colours made it look less good.

Overall, these ties are for casual occasions only! Do note that! For formal affairs, stick to the safe route! (:
